It’s really easy to not give a crap what you look like on a nature trip.
In some ways, that’s an amazing, liberating feeling. It gives you this wild, jungle girl confidence. Personally, I’m a girl who loves makeup (obviously). I feel like a better version of me when I wear it, so even when I’m going on a trip where the aim is exploring a park and going into hot springs I like to put a bit of stuff on my face.
So, let’s look at what I packed:
My makeup bag is from Elephant Stripes. I got their whole shebang deal on kickstarter with the pack, towel, makeup bags.. everything you need. As for size, it fit everything with room to spare, and it’s super easy to clean.
I obviously took the basics: Cotton pads, toothpaste, a toothbrush, a razor. Gotta have smooth legs when you’re going to a hot spring! I also have a shampoo sample that my Nonna got from a hotel. Seriously, always take your hotel shampoos. They’re perfect for weekends away!
I’m really into this Garnier Moisturizer. It goes on smoothly, absorbs quickly, and never feels greasy. It’s also amazingly cooling, which is great for hangovers.
Another skincare staple is Micellar water. I love Bioderma, and it’s great that you can get it in Canada now. I used to have to travel to France, or beg people travelling to France for it. Micellar water was invented as an alternative to the Parisian hard water. It’s basically little lipid bubbles suspended in water that just melt away makeup. I have come to the conclusion that this is what Mulan was using in that scene where she just wipes her face and all the makeup comes off.
I have a sample size of Marc Anthony Argan Oil. I have really fine hair, so for a few days I can skip conditioner and use a serum and it’s fine. I also have a tangle teezer. These are amazing. They literally get out every tangle super gently AND you can use them on wet hair. Perfect for getting beach hair detangled! I haven’t used a real brush in almost two years.
Now for the actual goodies! I brought one brush in an attempt to pack light- it’s a part of a Dior travel set that sadly doesn’t appear to be available anymore. I also brought my favourite powder- Bobbi Brown’s Nude Finish Illuminating Powder. It’s got some subtle shimmer, but is still powder so you get some glow within the matteness. It looks so natural, and it’s pretty. It’s become my one step, go-to powder. Since I’m all about the classics, I also have NARS blush in Orgasm. It goes on amazing, and the colour is perfect on everyone. Seriously, it’s so good. There’s not much I can say that hasn’t been said in a million reviews.
Lastly, we have the surprise warrior of this trip: Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. I love benefit mascara’s and I got this one because the set came with a travel sized. It goes on well, doesn’t clump, and the angled brush means you can build it up- which I did when we went out on Sunday night- or have it be pretty natural. We spent the day hiking in the national park and running around on beaches. We were the only people on the second-to-last beach we went to- bless the off season- and Adam went to take some photos. He didn’t have a macro lens, but he tried to get the wave’s reflection in my eye. Unfortunately it didn’t work, but what we did get was a great picture of my mascara being AMAZING!
So, there you have it. If you only pack one makeup bag, I highly recommend this one.
